How to Use Board Heatmap

Board Heatmap adds a GitHub-style calendar heatmap to your monday.com boards. Here's how to get started.

Installation

  1. Go to the monday.com Marketplace and install Board Heatmap.
  2. Open any board where you want to visualize activity.
  3. Click the + button next to your existing views (Main Table, Kanban, etc.) and select Board Heatmap from the list.

Selecting a Column

Once the heatmap view loads, use the column dropdown at the top to choose which date or timeline column to visualize. The heatmap will update immediately to show activity based on that column's data.

Tip: Timeline columns show a range of dates, so each day within the range counts as activity. Date columns show a single day per item.

Reading the Heatmap

Each square represents one day. The color intensity shows how many items fall on that date — darker squares mean more activity. Hover over any square to see the exact count and date.

Filtering by Group

Use the group filter to narrow the heatmap to specific groups on your board. This is useful for comparing workload across different teams, sprints, or categories.

Changing Colors

Click the color theme selector to choose a different color scheme for the heatmap. Your preference is saved automatically.

Including Subitems

Toggle the subitems switch to include or exclude subitems from the heatmap calculation. When enabled, subitems with matching date/timeline columns are counted alongside their parent items.

Privacy

Board Heatmap is 100% client-side. All data is processed in your browser using the monday.com SDK. No data is sent to external servers, and no personal information is collected.
