How to Use Pivot Tables

Pivot Tables adds Excel-style pivot tables and charts directly inside your monday.com boards. Here's how to get started.

Installation

  1. Install Pivot Tables from the monday.com Marketplace.
  2. Open any board where you want to summarize data.
  3. Click the + button next to your existing views (Main Table, Kanban, etc.) and select Pivot Tables from the list.

Creating Your First Pivot

  1. When the view loads, click Edit in the toolbar to open the configuration panel.
  2. Choose a Data Source — either Items or Subitems mode.
  3. Drag columns into the field wells:
    • Rows — the field to group by (e.g. Status, Person, Client)
    • Values — the field to aggregate (e.g. Budget with Sum, or Count)
    • Columns (optional) — adds a cross-tabulation breakdown
  4. Click Apply to preview, or Done to save and close the panel.

Choosing a Visualization

Use the View dropdown in the toolbar to switch between 6 visualization types:

Filtering Data

Click Edit to reopen the config panel. In the Filters section, add rules to narrow your data before pivoting. You can filter by status, person, dropdown, date, or number columns. Multiple filters use AND logic.

Tip: You can also filter by board groups or specific parent items (in subitems mode) using the selectors at the top of the config panel.

Date Grouping

When using a date column as a row field, a grouping dropdown appears letting you group by Day, Week, Month, Quarter, or Year. This is useful for trend analysis with Line or Bar charts.

Multiple Pages

Save different pivot configurations as separate pages. Use the page navigation at the bottom of the view to switch between them. Click + Add Page to create a new configuration. Each page remembers its own rows, columns, values, filters, and visualization type.

Note: The Free plan includes 1 pivot page. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited pages.

Exporting

Click the Export button in the toolbar to download your pivot data:

Items vs Subitems

In the config panel, choose your data source:

Tip: Items and Subitems are kept cleanly separated — no mixing that could produce confusing null values.

Aggregation Functions

Each value field supports independent aggregation:

Supported Column Types

Pivot Tables works with the following monday.com column types:

Additionally, built-in fields are always available:

Tip: Multiple columns of the same type are fully supported — for example, you can have several Status columns or multiple Number columns on the same board and use any of them independently in your pivot configuration.

Privacy

Pivot Tables is 100% client-side. All data is processed in your browser using the monday.com SDK. No data is sent to external servers, and no personal information is collected. Pivot configurations are stored via the monday.com Storage API.
